Hodges, Jr. (Photo) The son of the founder of "The Garden in the Forest", known as Hodges Gardens, died at 11:15 a.m., Thursday, March 6, at Schumpert Medical Center in Shreveport, following a brief illness. Andrew J. Hodges Jr., who served as managing trustee of the A. J. and Nina Trigg Hodges Foundation, and Hodges Gardens from 1966 through 1979, was 62. Mr. Hodges was chairman of the board of A. J. Hodges Industries, and served as a director of the Louisiana Bank and Trust Co. He has served on the board of directors of Junior Achievement, and the Louisiana State Fair Commission. He was also active in Ducks Unlimited, and the Shreveport Club. He was a native of Cotton Valley, and graduated from Byrd High School. He attended Colorado School of Mines, and Centenary College. He is survived by his widow, Maggie Belle Atkins Hodges; a daughter, Margaret Hodges Leeth; two sons, W. L. Hodges, and A. J. Hodges III; two sisters, Mrs. James E. Smitherman Jr., and Mrs. John J. Dailey Jr., all of Shreveport; and six grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m., Friday, March 7, in St. Mark's Episcopal Church, with Rev. Fred Patton, rector of St. Marks, officiating. Burial was in Forest Park Cemetery. Osborn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were B. F. O'Neal, Jere C. Overdyke, William J. Nesbitt, Dr. John A. Hendrick, A. Stan Ross, and Judge Thomas E. Stagg. The family requests that any memorials be made to the organization of the donor's choice.
