Hale, age 73 years, a prominent citizen of Zwolle burned to death about 3 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 25 when his home was destroyed by fire. The victim's daughter, Mrs. Ovie Bullard and her two young daughters, Jenell and Margaret Rose barely escaped but were unhurt. The Zwolle fire department upon arriving on the scene found the house in flames and tried vainly to rescue the elderly Mr. Hale, who apparently was trapped inside. Dr. L. H. Murdock, coroner, and City Marshall Quinton Brandon investigated the tragedy. The verdict of the coroners jury was that Mr. Hale burned to death by fire of an undetermined cause. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 26 at the Zwolle Methodist church with Rev. James Lawton officiating, assisted by the Rev. B. T. Scriviner, pastor of the First Baptist church of Zwolle, and the Rev. C. Lee Bullard. Burial followed in the Zwolle cemetery under the direction of Warren Funeral Home of Many. Mr. Hale is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ovie Bullard and Mrs. Joel T. Elliott, both of Zwolle; two sisters, Mrs. Emily Martin of Toro and Mrs. C. W. McGinty of Sillsby, Texas; and four grandchildren.
