Keith Layne officiating. Burial was in Hargis Cemetery, under direction of Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home. Mrs. Howell, 78, of Natchitoches, died at 1:45 a.m., Monday, in Schumpert Medical Center, Shreveport. Mrs. Howell was a former resident of Provencal, and a native of Verda. She was a retired depot agent for Missouri-Pacific Railroad. Survivors include six sons, Caldene Thompson of Gonzales, Marlon Thompson of New Jersey, Fred Howell of Ocean Springs, Miss., Tommy Howell of Stonewall, Carroll Howell of Provencal, and Bryan Howell of Baytown, Texas; four daughters, Mrs. Joy Thomasee of Natchitoches, Mrs. Lena O'Bannon of Provencal, Mrs. Jean Coffman of Mooringsport, and Mrs. Jessie White of Tyler, Texas; four sisters, Mrs. Melba Royal of Negreet, Mrs. Lura Royal of Florien, Mrs. Carene Artigo of Lake Charles, and Mrs. Mildred Futrell of Dry Prong; five brothers, Murrel McIlwain of Winnfield, Eugene McIlwain of Shreveport, George McIlwain of Columbia, Gilbert McIlwain of Westlake, and Clifford McIlwain of Montgomery; 48 grandchildren; 76 great grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Earl O'Bannon, Jerry O'Bannon, Bruce O'Bannon, Steven Taylor, Alvin Taylor, and C. J. Howell.
