All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** ** Mrs. Sarah Jane Hamilton Mrs. Sarah Jane Hamilton died on Sept. 9, 1984, at the Byrd Memorial Hospital, Leesville, La. She was 103. She was born Oct. 12, 1880, to Jim Obe, and Mary Smith in Texas. She was married to the late Vicroe Hamilton, and to this union three daughters were born; Penny, Mary, and Surderia, all of which preceded her in death. Upon locating in Pine Flat (Clara), La., she united with the St. Mary's Baptist Church, under the pastorate of Rev. Lloyd Davis, where she served faithfully as Sunday School Teacher, President of the Home Mission, and wherever God inspired her to serve. She moved to Leesville in the early 1970's, where she resided until death. Mrs. Hamilton is survived by two brothers, Dave Smith of Shreveport, and Jeremiah Smith of Florien; one sister, Emily (Roni) Jones, Shreveport; three grandchildren, Liza Jane Boxie, Houston, Tex., Mason Roy Seastrunk, Houston, Tex., and Reginald Seastrunk, Leesville; seven great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Hamilton were held on Sept. 15, at 1 p.m., in the Ellen Burr Baptist Church, Leesville. Rev. Daniel Stafford, pastor of Ellen Burr officiated. Interment was in the Garden of Memories Cemetery, under the direction of Winnfield Funeral Home, Alexandria. Pallbearers were Hamp Smith, Simon Smith, Hayward Smith, Huey D. Smith, Delaney Smith, Roy Seastrunk, Honorary pallbearers were the Brotherhood Members of Ellen Burr Baptist Church.
