Harper, 21, of Many, died instantly when the 18 wheeler he was driving, overturned in a curve two miles east of Carmel on La. Highway 509, according to Trooper Marvin Melton of the Louisiana State Police Troop G. Mr. Harper, who co-owned the truck with his father, Huey Harper of Many, was a driver for E. L. Farmer of Houston, Tex. He was delivering machinery parts for the International Paper Plant, under construction in DeSoto Parish. Trooper Melton stated that a motorist following Mr. Harper's truck, reportedly used his CB radio to warn him of the curve, where another accident had occurred several days before. Alone at the time of the accident, which occurred Wednesday, May 21, at 10 a.m., Mr. Harper was pronounced dead at the scene. A 1977 graduate of Many High, Mr. Harper was an active member of the Many High School Band for four years. He was an All District Bandsman, section leader, and a member of the MHS Stage Band. While in high school, he and several friends formed a rock band. Mr. Harper resided at home, and attended the Trinity Baptist Church. Funeral services were held at the Warren Meadows Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, May 23, at 2 p.m. The Rev. C. E. Bell, and the Rev. H. H. Tibbitts officiated. Burial was in the Fort Jesup Cemetery, under the direction of the Warren Meadows Funeral Home. Pallbearers were friends of Mr. Harper. Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Huey Harper of Many; two sisters, Mrs. Debra Corley of Many, and Mrs. Kathryn Leone of Zwolle; and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Della May of Many.
