He joined Jerusalem Baptist Church at an early age. He graduated from Sabine High School, and received a electrician certificate from Miami, Florida. He went off to Vietnam, and fought in the war in 1967. He received many honors and awards. Ruben later married and went to live in Dallas, Tex. Later, he separated from his wife. Mr. Harris was preceded in death by his sister, Alice Faye Harris. Ruben has left behind, his mother, Girtha Lee Harris; his father, James Harris; six sisters, Annette McClanahan, Juanita Harris, Janette Collins, Saundra Watkin, Opal Smith, and Edna Collier; five brothers, Terry Harris, David Harris, James Douglas Harris, Milton Harris, and Johnny Ray Harris; a host of nieces and nephews. The body was in wake at Jenkins Funeral Home, Friday, June 2, at 7 p.m. A morning service was at Jenkins Funeral Home Saturday, June 3, at 11 a.m. Burial was at Jerusalem Cemetery.
