Harris, Sr. Services for Dr. Edward L. Harris Sr., 75, were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 9, at the Central Baptist Church. Officiating was Dr. Ron Harvey, assisted by the Rev. Kenneth R. Everett, and the Rev. Andy Harris. Burial followed in the Springhill Cemetery, with Masonic graveside rites. Services were under the direction of Bailey Mortuary, Springhill. Dr. Harris, a native of Dubach, and a resident of Springhill for 43 years, passed away Thursday, March 7, in Springhill, after a sudden illness. Dr. Harris was a dentist, retiring in August 1986, after 39 years. He was a graduate of the Dubach High School, Louisiana Tech University, and the Loyola School of Dentistry in New Orleans. He was a former teacher, and coach of the Ringgold High School, and principal of the Jamestown High School, and Castor High School. He was a member of Central Baptist Church, and a teacher of the D.O.W. Sunday School Class. He was a member of the Springhill Masonic Lodge #348 F&AM, a Shriner of El Karubah Temple in Shreveport, the Shreveport Council #23 R&SM, Crusader Commandery #21 Knights Templar, Shreveport Chapter #94 R.A.M., Springhill Shrine Club, and the Springhill Lions Club. He is survived by his wife, Lola Mae Barnes Harris, with whom he celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary on May 23, 1990; four sons, James S. Harris and his wife Bert, and Alan Harris and his wife Annita, all of Springhill, Michael B. Harris and his wife Peggy of Shreveport, and Edward L. Harris Jr. and his wife Vicky of Many; a sister, Ruby Harris Young of Hammond; grandchildren, Angela Harris Brakeville and her husband Clayton, J. Lee Harris, Edward Lee Harris III, Lendsey Ann Harris, Sarah Lea Ann Harris, and Staci Lynn Harris. Pallbearers were John Wallace, Dr. Charles W. Tanner, Olin Mills, A. C. Higgenbotham, J. Lee Harris, Clayton Brakeville. Honorary pallbearers were members of the D.O.W. Sunday School Class of Central Baptist Church, and Cage Pace, Calvin Craig, Jimmy McDonald, and Tommy Joe Wise. Any memorials may be made to the charity of the donors choice.
