All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** ** Edward Lee Horton Services for Mr. Edward Lee Horton, 24, of Shreveport, were held at 1 p.m., Sat., July 3, at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Benton. He died in a boating accident, Sat., June 26, in Cape Cod, Ma. At the time of his death, the Shreveport native was a graduate student at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a candidate for the Masters Degree in Physics. Mr. Horton graduated from Huntington High School as an honor student, president of the class of 1976, varsity athlete, and member of the school band. He enrolled at Grambling university, where he was an outstanding physics student. He completed research activities at Bell Laboratories, was a member of Beta Kappa Chi National Scientific Honor Society, Sigma National Physics Honor Society. His outstanding physics achievement earned his further study at MIT in physics on an academic fellowship. At Grambling, Horton marched with the renowned Tiger Band, playing the baritone horn, and served as drum major during his senior year. He graduated Cum Laude from Grambling State University in 1980, with a degree in Physics. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Cheryl Coleman Horton of Shreveport; daughter, Carmen Marcier Horton; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sandy Horton; sister, Shelia D. Horton; brothers, Second Lt. Donald R. Horton of Keesler AFB, Mississippi, and Larry R. Horton of Zwolle; paternal and maternal grandparents, and paternal great grandfather. Arrangements were under the direction of the Winnfield Funeral Home.
