All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** ** Mrs. Gerald Heron The body of Mrs. Gerald Heron of Center, Tex., was found in Toledo Lake, shortly after noon, Thursday, Sept. 24, by Sabine Sheriff's Deputy Jack Brown, and a Texas Deputy Sheriff. Mrs. Heron drowned Sept. 13, when she fill off a barge into the lake in the area of Sepulvado's Landing. She fill into about 55 ft. of water. On the barge with her was her husband and four children. Heron told the Sheriff's Dept. the boat ran out of gas about 4:30 p.m., and he went to the back of the boat to switch tanks, when one of the children screamed their mother had fallen overboard. A friend, J. T. Furlow, who was also on the barge dived into the water, and said he caught hold of her one time, but came up under the boat, and couldn't get her out of the water. Brown told the INDEX Mrs. Heron's body came up in the area where she fell from the barge. Parish Coroner, Dr. Richard Oosta, was called to the scene, after the body was found.
