Services were held Tuesday, December 11, 1990, at 2 p.m., at the First Baptist Church of Logansport. Officiating was Rev. Charles Hall, Rev. Larry Joyner, and Orville Beam. Interment was in the O. E. Price Cemetery. Mr. Jackson was born February 5, 1909, was the eldest child of John Seab, and Ida Adams Jackson of Red River Parish, and was a graduate of Fairview Alpha High School, and Draughton School of Business. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Northwestern State University, pursued graduate studies at LSU, and received M. Ed. From Stephen F. Austin University. He taught and coached at Martin High School, before becoming principal of Fairview Alpha High School in 1934. After 15 years in Red River Parish, he became principal of Logansport High School, continuing in that position for 17 years. In 1965 he became a vocational rehabilitation counselor for the State Dept. of Education, serving Caddo, DeSoto, Sabine, Red River, and Natchitoches Parishes. After retirement, he served for 16 years on the Sabine River Authority Board. Mr. Jackson was a deacon in the First Baptist Church, where he served as Sunday School Superintendent for many years. He was a 54 year member of the Masonic Lodge, He was a York Rite Mason, Scottish Rite Mason, and a member of the El Karubah Shrine Temple. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Myrtis Lee Heard Jackson; a daughter and son-in-law, Frances Ruth and Charles Freeman of Alexandria; one sister, Cecil Murphy of Natchitoches; one brother, John Clinton Jackson of Coushatta; four grandchildren, Denise McGrade of Dallas, Tex., Jacqueline Lee Perez of Chicago, Ill., Leslie Faye Jackson of Raleigh, N. C., and Kyle S. Jackson of Houston, Tex.; two grandsons-in-law, Steven McGrade, and Angel Perez; a great granddaughter, Veronica Lee Perez; many beloved nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the W. H. Jackson College Scholarship Fund administered through the First Baptist Church in Logansport.
