Jackson Corporal John Wendell Jackson, a Ccombat flight chief on a C-37 helicopter, and a member of 1st Marine Air Wing, has been killed in a combat assault on Viet Cong positions in Viet Nam. Corporal Jackson's helicopter was shot down by enemy mortar fire during the engagement. Jackson's wife, who lives in Shreveport, is the former Jerry Norsworthy of Fisher. Cpl. Jackson had received the air medal and commendations for his service in Viet Nam. He was the only son of Lt. And Mrs. W. H. Jackson. His father was killed in the Normandy invasion in 1944, during World War II. His mother is the former Ercel Robenson of Mansfield, and now resides in Shreveport. Jackson was a grandson of Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Jackson Sr. of Simpson, and a nephew of Russell Jackson, Assistant Superintendent of Vernon Parish Schools, and F. W. Jackson Jr., principal of Simpson High School, and W. C. Jackson, a retired Army Sergeant, of Alexandria, who is now employed at England Air Base.
