Buvens was suddenly and fatally stricken by a heart attack at his home in Many at 9:30 p.m. Monday. Funeral services were conducted at St. John's Catholic church at 9 a.m. Wednesday with Father J. A. Benoit, celebrant of the Mass. Rt. Rev. Monsignor John C. Vandegaer of Natchitoches preached the sermon. Interment followed under direction Massingill funeral home. Pallbearers were: Robert B. Jackson, J. Reuel Boone, Harvey Skinner, J. M. Belisle, Ancil DeLatin, S. M. Taylor, A. P. Store, J. M. Jordan. Surviving relatives include the widow, Mrs. W. E. Latham 1 Jul 1949 - (The following account of the death of a native Sabinian is taken from the Jasper (Texas) Newsboy of June 24.) Funeral services for Emmet E. Latham who died last Wednesday evening, were held at 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon. June 16, at the First Baptist church in Jasper with Rev. Herman Coe, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in the Restland addition to Memorial cemetery of Jasper. Mr. Latham was born June 6, 1880, in Sabine parish, La. and was 69 years old at the time of his death. On Feb. 10, 1907 he was united in marriage to Christain Russell and to this union were born one daughter and three sons, all of whom survive their father. Mr. Latham had been active in the cattle business for approximately 40 years prior to moving to Jasper five years ago. Since moving her he has been semi-retired due to ill health and for the past several months his condition has been considered critical. Mr. Latham was a member of the Baptist church, having joined that body 35 years ago, and before his retirement had been actively engaged in church work and affairs. A number of out-of-town people from Sabine parish and other places, who were friends and relatives, attended the funeral services. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Christian Russell Latham; one daughter, Mrs. R. W. Perkins of Port Arthur, three sons, E. E. Latham, W. A. Latham and J. L. Latham, all of Jasper; two sisters, Mrs. Pearl Boyd of Converse, La., and Mrs. Modess Springer of Baton Rouge, La.; one brother, A. M. Latham of Mainesville, La.; and eight grandchildren. Pallbearers were: I. C. Davis, I. B. Bankston, U. E. Dean, R. E. Smith, Carl E. Morgan, T. B. Walters, Gilbert Adams, all of Jasper, and C. A. Lewis of Lafayette, La.
