Givens, 43, of Rt. 5, Shreveport, formerly of Florien, who drowned when a motor boat in which he was a passenger sank on Red River about one mile north of Cash Point Saturday evening, July 12, were held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 14, from the Wellman funeral home chapel, Shreveport, with the Rev. W. B. Shaw, pastor of the Summer Grove Methodist church, officiating. Mr. Givens was an employee of the Shreveport Beverage company and had been a resident of that city for the past 17 years, having moved from Florien. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Doris Givens; on son, J. A. Givens, III; a step-daughter, Mrs. Ben Virgils of Beaumont, Texas; one step-son, DeFrances Bres of Beaumont, Texas; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Givens, Sr., of Shreveport; three sisters, Mrs. O.
