Friday, June 29 was conducted at Assumption church, Plattenville,
Sunday, July 1, with Rev. Father McLaughlin officiating.
Interment was under the direction of Warren Funeral Home.

  Survivors are wife, Mrs. J. B. Leze of Many; sons, John P. Leze
of New Orleans, daughters, Mrs. Bervick Guillot, Mrs. Paul Dugas,
both of New Orleans, Mrs. Elton Anderson of Fisher, sister, Mrs.
Henry Verret of Plattenville, 12 grandchildren and 12
great-grandchildren.

The Sabine Index - Mrs. Hattie May Mitchell

  6 Jul 1956 - Funeral services for Mrs. Hattie May Mitchell,
56, who was killed late Wednesday June 7, when her car collided
with a gravel truck at the Powhatten-Allen crossing, was
conducted at the Calvary Baptist church at 10 a.m. Friday, June
29, with Rev. V. L. Prewitt officiating. Interment was in Many
cemetery under the direction of Warren Funeral Home.

  Mrs. Mitchell was attempting to cross Louisiana Highway No. 1
when the collision occurred. She was taken from the wreckage
alive and rushed to a local hospital where she died a short time
later.

  Survivors are her husband, Leon D. Mitchell of Many; son,
Leon D. Mitchell, Jr., of Many, daughter, Mrs. Harvey Derrbonne,
of Osceola, Ark., brothers, Fred Hayes of Portland, Ore.; George
Lester of Baton Rouge; C. W. Lester, Walter Lester, both of
Natchitoches; sister, Mrs. C. E. Settle, Sr., of Natchitoches,
and five grandchildren.

  Pallbearers were John Tarver, Alva Tarver, Wallace
DeLatin, Joe Bill McCormick, Frank Eason and J. S. Pickett.

The Sabine Index - A. R. Bryan

  13 Jul 1956 - A. R. Bryan, manager of the store - Louisiana
Long Leaf Lumber Co., at Fisher for 27 1/2 years, passed away at
his home in Monroe on July 9 at the age of 82. He is survived by
his wife, Mrs. A. R. Bryan, one son, and a grandson; two sisters,
Mrs. Hattie Bunch and Mrs. Camile McGenson.

  13 Jul 1956 - Funeral services for John Patrick Dillon, 69,
who died July 6 at the Veteran's hospital in Alexandria after a
long illness was conducted at the Warren Funeral Home at 4:30
p.m. Saturday, July 7, with Rev. John Koelemay officiating.
Interment was in Many cemetery under the direction of Warren
Funeral Home.

  Surviving relatives are sisters, Mrs. Wilson Leach of
Shreveport, Mrs. Lattie Mitchell of Zwolle and Mrs. Betty
Peterson of Many.

  Pallbearers were, J. B. Vandegaer, Robert Jackson, J.
W. Lucius, R. J. Lucius, J. J. Blake, Sr., and T. M. Phillips.

  Mr. Dillon was a lifelong resident of Many and a
veteran of World War I.

The Sabine Index - Hoyt W. Mains

  13 Jul 1956 - Funeral services for Hoyt W. Mains, 45, member
of a pioneer Sabine Parish family, was held at 2 p.m. Sunday July
8, at First Baptist church of Many, with the Rev. Pratt McCloud
of First Church, Westlake, officiating, assisted by the Rev. J.
H. Ricks, Florien and the Rev. W. H. Rose, pastor, Many First
Baptist church.

  Burial was in Mt. Zion cemetery.

  Mr. Mains died Friday in Houma, of a heart attack.

  He was born and reared in Many. He was a graduate of the Many
High School. Had been employed by the Texas Company of Houma, for
21 years.

  Surviving include the widow, Mrs. Eunice Davis Mains, one son,
Hoyt Mains, Jr., his father, Lee Mains, six brothers, F. F.
Mains, Bossier City; Leva Mains, Beaumont; Roy L. Mains, Many;
Dawson Mains; New Iberia; Ellzey Mains, Pleasant Hill; Hubert
Mains, New Iberia; four sisters, Mrs. C. L. Hillman, DeRidder;
Mrs. D. A. Scaife, Many; Mrs. Lawrence Hogan, Lake Charles and
Mrs. Eddie Carroll, Los Angeles, Calif., and a number of nieces
and nephews.

  Pallbearers were employees of the Texas Co.

  13 Jul 1956 - Funeral services were held at the chapel of the
Warren Funeral home Sunday, July 8, at 2 p.m. for Henry L.
McDonald, 27-year-old Converse sailor who drowned June 17 at
Yolosuka, Japan.

  The Rev. Jerry Schumaker of Shreveport officiated.

  Burial was in the Converse cemetery under the direction of
Warren Funeral Home.

  Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Mildred Lorraine
McDonald; one son, Michael; his mother, Mrs. Martha McDonald of
Converse; four brothers, J. V. McDonald of Orange, Texas; O. P.

The Sabine Index - Glen Wiley Patrick

  13 Jul 1956 - Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday,
July 9 in the First Baptist church of Many for Glen Wiley
Patrick, 49, pharmacist for more than 30 years, who died at 10:40
p.m. Saturday in the Fraser sanitarium.

  Mr. Patrick was a native of Many and was the son of Mr. and
Mrs. R. L. Patrick, who survive him. He formerly was a druggist
in Elizabeth where he resided for 14 years. He was married Dec.
25, 1930.

  Mr. Patrick is survived by his widow, Mrs. Inez Patrick of
Many; two sons, Robert A. Patrick of Shreveport and Emmons H.
Patrick of Many; one daughter, Mrs. Glenna Ramsey of Spartenburg,
S. C.; three brothers, Robert Patrick of Vinton, and Rollie and
Evelyn Patrick, both of Many; two sisters, Mrs. Ray Pass of Many
and Mrs. Carroll Alford of Sarepta; and one granddaughter, Cheryl
Lee Ramsey of Spartenburg.

  The Rev. W. H. Rose, pastor of the First Baptist church
officiated. Burial was in the Many cemetery under the direction
of the Warren Funeral home.

  Pallbearers were James Lynch and William H Lynch, both of
Shreveport, and Johnny Varnado, Alton Horn, Floyd Nabours, Jr.,
and Lee Jordan.

The Sabine Index - Wilmer D. (Bill) Whittaker

  13 Jul 1956 - Wilmer D. (Bill) Whittaker, 41, of Beaumont,
Texas, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. J. (Bud) Whittaker, died
at 6 a.m. Thursday, July 5, in Hotel Dieu after a week's illness.

  A native of Florien, Mr. Whittaker had lived in Beaumont 15
years and had been employed by Magnolia Petroleum Co., refinery
for 13 years as a labor foremen. He was a member of the Baptist
church.

  Survivors include his wife, daughters, Mrs. Jo Ann Gavinalno of
Reno, Nev., Miss Bobbie Jean Whittaker of Many; Mrs. Joan Bostick
of Beaumont, Texas,; two brothers, J. F. Whittaker of Leesville,
I. C. Whittaker of Patuxent, Md., five sisters, Mrs. Ray Latiel,
and Mrs. Minnie Tilley of Beaumont; Mrs. Reed Buis of Angelton,
Texas; Ms. J. D. Yong of Thibodaux; Mrs. E. L. Dupree of Many,
Rt. 4, and four grandchildren.

  Funeral services were held at Roberts and Pipkin-Brulin
Funeral Home chapel. Interment was in Rock Springs cemetery in
Nacogdoches, Texas.

The Sabine Index - Jerry Key

  27 Jul 1956 - Funeral rites for Jerry Key, age 16, were held
Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Alford Heights Baptist church with
Rev. Willis Greer officiating, assisted by Rev. H. H. Tibbitts.
Interment was in the Fort Jesup cemetery under the direction of
Warren Funeral Home.

  Survivors are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Orvil Key, three
sisters, Barbara, Jimmie Lynn and Jackie, also grandparents, Mr.
and Mrs. W. J. Key, all of Many.

  Pallbearers were members of the Intermediate Sunday
school class at Alford Heights Baptist church: Benny Cooper,
Jimmy Dees, Kenneth Ray Leach, Hoy Leach, Jr., DeWane Jackson and
Charles Alford.

  Jerry was killed instantly Tuesday by a pistol shot.
The accident happened at the home of Frank Veuleman. Key was
visiting Truman Veuleman, a grandson of Frank Veuleman. The two
boys had been playing with the pistol, a .32 caliber Colt, when
it accidently discharged in a report by Sheriff T. M. Phillips.
Dr. L. H. Murdock of Zwolle Sabine parish coroner held an inquest
and ruled an death was accidental.

Sardis cemetery, Aiken, Texas, under the direction of Warren
Funeral Home.

  Survivors are wife, Mrs. Bessie Mora of Noble, sons, Lonnie
Mora of Noble, J. W. Mora of Shreveport, Arthur Mora, of Noble,
Eugene Mora of Noble; daughters, Mrs. Leona Westbrook of
Kirbyville, Texas, Vera Sue Mora of Noble; sister, Mrs. Emma Y.
