Edwards died at 3:20 p.m. Thursday, June 10. His death was a sudden and came as a shock to his many relatives and friends in Logansport, where is occurred, and in Sabine parish, where he was born, reared and spent a larger portion of his life. He was buried in the Noble cemetery at 4:00 p.m. Friday. Rev. J. F. Wilson conducted the services. Pallbearers were his brothers, L. G., G. W., Z. F., J. C., his brother-in-law, Shellie Tooke, and his uncles, Arch and Arthur Henderson. Mr. Edwards is survived by his wife, and children, Katherine, Olan Ray and Betty Gene; two daughters by a former marriage, Annie Ruth and Nannie Mae; four brothers, L. G., J. C., of Noble, Z. F. of Converse and G. W. of San Marcos, Texas; two sisters, Mrs. Shellie Tooke of Shreveport and Mrs. H. H. Edwards, age 48 years, were held Sunday at four o'clock from the First Baptist church, Rev. C. W. Williams officiating. Burial was in the Many cemetery with services conducted by the Masons at the grave. Surviving are wife and six children, Mrs. M. Pettit, husband in U. S. Army; Mrs. Kenneth Ramsey, Beaumont, Texas; E. L., Jr., of the naval air forces, Corpus Christi, Texas; Judith, Evonne and William of Many. Active pallbearers were five brothers: L. G., G. W., C. E., J. C. and Z. F. and two brothers in-law, Shelly Tooke and H. H. Witley. Honorary pallbearers were friends of the family. Mr. Edwards spent his early life in Texas, where for 20 years he worked in the oil industry. He served a four-year term as Sheriff of Sabine parish, two years as state enforcement officer. Since that time he has been with the postal service as rural mail carrier. He was a member of the First Baptist church, a Mason and Shriner. Mr. Edwards passed away at 3:30 last Saturday evening at the family residence on Dillon street after a lengthy illness. ***************************************************************** Obituaries: Styles M. Lewing, age 76 years, were held Sunday at 10 o'clock at the Lewing cemetery near Fisher. Rev. L. H. Newcomb, pastor of the Church of the Nazarene of Many, officiated. Interment was in the Lewing cemetery under the direction of Dennis-Green funeral Home. Active pallbearers were: Lyman Crittenden, Jack Woodson, C. A. Rials, Odis Derr, Ray Lewing and Amos Knippers. Honorary pallbearers were friends of the family. Mr. Lewing was a life-long resident of Sabine Parish, having lived and died within a mile of his birthplace three miles south of Many. ***************************************************************** Obituaries: Virginia Joy Pearson, Sabine Parish P-625 Source: Sabine Index, Many, La., Jun 11, 1943 Submitted by: Tammy Larche-Smith tammy@cp-tel.net The Sabine Index - Virginia Joy Pearson 11 Jun 1943 - Virginia Joy Pearson, 2, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Pearson of Zwolle, was killed about noon Monday when she fell from a moving car. Mr. and Mrs. Pearson were returning from Many and were near Hall service station in Zwolle when the car door came open and the baby fell out. Her skull was crushed by the fall and she died while on the way to Fraser sanitarium in Many. She is survived by her parents and a sister Jeannette. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Bayou Scie Methodist church with the Rev. Joe Flanagan officiating. Webb, 81, resident of Sabine parish for many years, died at the home of a daughter, Mrs. W. H. Sowell at Mansfield Monday morning after a lingering illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday 10 a.m. at Drewitt funeral home, conducted by Rev. E. L. Carnett, pastor of Fist Baptist church of Mansfield. Interment was in Highland cemetery under the direction of Drewitt funeral home. Pallbearers were grandsons of Mrs. Webb: Paul Matthews, Printess Beasley, Pierce Sibly, Ribon Adams, Hilard Dykes and Sherman Bentley. Mrs. Webb is survived by five daughters, Mrs. W. H. Sowell of Mansfield, Mrs. E. H. Matthews of Waterproof, Mrs. R. R. Roberts of Joplin, Mo., Mrs. J. M. Sowell of Many and Mrs. A. L. Dykes of Shreveport; four sons, S. C. Bentley of Shreveport, V. R. Bentley of Ashdow, Ark., W. E. Robinette and M. E. Webb, both of Mansfield; 26 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Webb was born in Lincoln parish but moved to Sabine parish when very young. She was the wife of the late William Whittington (Whit) Webb, who has many relatives throughout Sabine parish.
