her son near Many Sunday. Funeral rites were conducted at Aimwell
church 3 p.m. Monday by First Baptist church, Many. Interment
followed under direction Massingill funeral home.

  Surviving relatives include sons, Sam and Charley Baldwin of
Many; sisters, Mrs. Martha Kounce, San Augustine, Texas, Mrs.
Liddie Oliver, Toro; brother, Wesley Jordan; 10 grandchildren and
four great-grandchildren

  17 Jun 1949 - S/Sgt. Jessie L. Brown, 33 expired at Walter
Reed hospital in Washington, D. C., Thursday of last week after a
long illness. Rev. A. D. Ashby conducted funeral services at
Spring Ridge Baptist church 10 a.m. Monday. Interment followed
under direction Massingill funeral home.

  Pallbearers were: Evert Haine, Randel Brown, Son Watley, Leo
Williams, James Williams and Ansel Cole.

  Sgt. Brown is survived by parents, Mr. and Mrs. John
Brown, Marthaville; brothers, J. P. Brown and Travis Brown of
Marthaville, Sebe Brown and Tom Brown, Beaumont, Texas; sisters,
Mrs. Mairy Maines, Pleasant Hill, Mrs. Lois Kornegay, Beaumont,

  17 Jun 1949 - Elijah Miers, 61, native of Merryville, passed
away at his home in DeRidder Rt. 3, at 11:40 a.m. June 6. Funeral
services were conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, by Revs. G. J.
Jones and Farley Green. Interment followed in Hopewell cemetery
under direction Hixon funeral home.

  Pallbearers were: David Brown, Charles Cooley, Marvin Bailey,
Audrey Green, Dan Green and A. J. Cooley.

  Surviving relatives include: mother, Mrs. Josephine
Miers, Florien; aunt, Mrs. Elza Craft, Merryville; uncles, Ott
and Pete Hickman, both of DeRidder; brothers and sisters, Arthur
Miers, Mrs. Lena Dunn, Ben and Lemuel Miers, all of Florien, Mrs.
Lola Marze, Jehome Miers, Mrs. Odessa Marze and Louell Miers, all
of Anacoco, and Mark Miers, Bossier city.

  Mr. Miers had never been married and had made his home
with Aunt Lavonia Green for over 34 years.

  24 Jun 1949 - Mrs. Alpha Clara Stephens of Hornbeck died at
the resident of her son, Hugh T. Miller, Houston, Texas, 6:25
p.m. Tuesday of last week. She was a member of the Methodist
church and Katherine B. chapter No. 31 Order Eastern Star of
Hornbeck.

  Mrs. Stephens is survived by two son, Hugh T. Miller, Houston,
Texas and J. W. Stephens, Beaumont, Texas; a daughter, Mrs. J. E.
Halpin, Beaumont, Texas; eight brothers, I. K., I. A., C. M. and
J. P. Leach, all of Houston, Texas, C. T. Leach, Hornbeck, A. C.
Leach, Leesville, G. C. Leach, Los Angeles, calif., G. G. Leach,
Edinburg; four sisters Mrs. D. A. Maddox, Houston, Texas, Mrs. N.
Selph, Florien, Mrs. C. G. Gibbs, Waco, Texas, Mrs. H. L.
Weathers, Shreveport; two grandsons and four granddaughters.

  Funeral services were at 4 p.m. Thursday at King funeral
home. Rev. T. C. Jester and Rev. A. J. Hall of Hornbeck
officiating. Burial was in Forst Park cemetery, Houston, King
funeral home directing.

  Funeral services were held for Mr. Taylor at 10 a.m. Thursday
by Rev. King.

  Pallbearers were: Thomas McCullor, Travis Litton, Wilborn
McDonald, James McDonald, Zollie Hazes and John Ott.

  Rev. Peacock conducted last rites for Mrs. Taylor at
3 p.m., Sunday, also at Oak Grove.

  Pallbearers were James Litton, Travis Litton, Welborn
McDonald, James McDonald, Zollie Hayes and John Ott.

  Both funerals were directed by Massingill funeral
home.

  Surviving relatives of Mr. and Mrs. Taylor include: sons,
