Davis 10 Jun 1955 - Mrs. J. R. Davis, age 60, passed away Sunday night at Prothro Hospital, after a long illness. Mrs. Davis was a member of Belmont Baptist church. She is survived by her husband, J. R. Davis, one daughter, Mrs. Evelyn Kelley, Odessa, Texas; two sons, Otha Davis, Washington; Eual Davis, Belmont. Two brothers, Sam Arnold, Pleasant Hill, Luther Arnold, Oxford; six grandchildren and a number of neices and nephews. Funeral services were conducted at Belmont Baptist church Monday afternoon, June 6, at 3 p.m. with Rev. O. S. Roberts, officiating. E. A. Hubier quartet of Converse was in charge of the singing. Pallbearers were: M. M. Carter, M. B. Russell, J. W. Webb, Sr., J. E. Skinner, W. Wolley, Chester Howard. He joined the air force at Barksdale where he received his basic training and was sent overseas. Jim's plane was shot down over Berlin in World War II, where he was taken prisoner of war for 17 months by the Germans. There he received his injuries while a POW. Jim never was well afterwards. He spent most of is time in hospitals. But during his sufferings he faced the world with a smile. Military rites were conducted at the graveside by the Barksdale Air Force Base with Warren Funeral home in charge. The services were conducted at 2 p.m. with Rev. J. P. King, Rev. Billy Burkett and Rev. L. J. Skiles officiating.
