Kelly, age 85 years, who passed away Saturday at 10 p.m. at a hospital in Winnfield, were held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian church in Winnfield, with the pastor, the Rev. Robert Gage, officiating. Mrs. Kelly had been a charter member of this church for the past 50 years. Surviving are two sons, J. H. and C. E. She was the daughter of Needham Lee and Lydia Ansly Rogers and was married on Feb. 16, 1882 to John Monroe Sandel. Ten children were born to them but two of them, Needham and Elias had preceded their mother in death. Her husband had also passed to that great beyond and the three were already waiting for her in the city supernal. Mother had spent most of her life near Florien, La. and was a member of Prospect Methodist church. Her patient life of faith, hope, and love was an inspiration to all who knew her. She was laid to rest on April 26 in Prospect cemetery. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Cecil Kennedy and Rev. A. H. Hoffpauir with special singing by Rev. Henry Isgitt. Pallbearers were her grandsons. Survivors include eight children and one brother, Oliver, Addison and Ira Sandel, Ella Bush and Ansley Chism of Florien; Jane Bolton, Elizabeth Clawson and Emma Curtis of Hornbeck; Cullen Lee of Natchitoches; forty grandchildren, seventy great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Smith, 42, died at his home Wednesday morning of a self inflicted gunshot wound. According to a statement to Sheriff Phillips, by his wife, Mrs. Smith, her husband had no apparent motive for killing himself. Smith, a lineman and meter reader with the Central Louisiana Electric Co., left for work about 7:30 a.m. and appeared in good spirits to his fellow workers authorities said. L. C. will be greatly missed in his work, among his friends and fellow workers.
