Kelly 8 Oct 1935 - The following new item appeared in Monday's issure of the Lake Charles American Press: Deputy Sheriff Grover C. Kelly, 48, died at his home, early today from a heart attack. He suffered a first attack about 5 p.m. Sunday and subsequent attacks until 9 p.m., when it was believed he was recovering. At 12:15 a.m. today, however he was stricken with a fatal attack. Deputy Kelly previously had not been bothered by heart trouble. Mr. Kely had been districk court deputy and juvenile officer in the Sheriff Henry A. Reid administration since 1928. He was born January 27, 1887 in Many and came to old Calcasieu parish in early boyhood. Services will be held at 4:30 this afternoon in the residence, with the Rev. G. B. Hines and the Rev. E. C. Gunn officiating. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery, with Burke & Trotti in charge. Active pallbearers will be Sherif Reid, Deputy Tax Collector, J. H. Leveque and deputy Sheriffs Forrest Gill, Gibbs Duhon, Archie Hebert and Jerry Carethers. Mr. Kelly resided with his uncle, the late D. A. Kelly when he first came to Lake Charles. He was connected with the Louisiana Grain Co. for a long time and later went into a general mercantile business for himself in East Broad street in August, 1918. Before coming to Lake Charles Mr. Kelly was a foreman for Powell Lumber Co., at Edna and was later bookkeeper for the company at Edna. He married Miss Elizabeth Baggett, August 10, 1910. She survives, other survivors are two daughters, Miss Ruth and Alice Kelly and a son Hoyt, all of Lake Charles; two sisters Mrs. William Peace and Mrs. Speight of Columbas, La., a brother, R. A. Kelly of Many, a cousin, George Frank Kelly and an aunt Mr. D. A. Kelly both of Lake Charles.
