"Bill" Knippers, 82, of Moss Bluff died Friday, Jan. 2 at 4:15 p.m. at his residence. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4 at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Monsignor Irving DeBlanc officiated. Graveside committal services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 5 at Pine Knot Cemetery, in Mt. Carmel. Survivors include three sons, Lynn Knippers and Gary Knippers, both of Lake Charles; and Darell Knippers of Bridge City, Texas; one daughter, Debbie Cassidy of Jennings; three sisters, Isabelle Moore of Victoria, Texas, Rosie Freeman of Many and Marie Shelton of Shreveport; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Mr. Knippers was a native of Mt. Carmel, Sabine Parish, he lived in Lake Charles for the past 40 years. He was a member of Local 798 (Pipeline Welders) for 20 years. He transferred to Local 106 (Plumbers and Steamfitters), and retired in 1985. He was owner and operator of Knippers Engineering Firm Incorporated. He also served in the Pacific Theater from 1943 to 1945 as a corporal in the 806th Aviation Engineers and a member of VFW Post 2130. Mr. Knippers served as president of the Louisiana Wildlife and Fishery Federation in 1961. He also sat on the Board of Trustees which was instrumental in convincing the governors of Louisiana and Texas to form what is now Toledo Bend Lake. Mr. Knippers was president of a local Rod and Gun Club, and was past president of Jean Lafitte Gun and Skeet Club of Lake Charles.
