According to Lt. Alfice Brumley of the Sheriff's Department, the youth suddenly sank. Lowell Price of Bossier City, and 10 year old Larry Jackson witnessed the sinking. The body was recovered at 4:35, and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation was vainly attempted by Kenneth A. Isgitt of Sulphur, a Mrs. Sistrunk of Converse, and a Mr. Peterson of Shreveport, according to Brumley, who said they did "a mighty fine job". The dead lad's stepmother, Mrs. Mattie King was present during the happening.
