Lee - May 26, 1988 Services for Mr. Lionel C. Lee of DeRidder, were held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 16 at the First United Methodist Church in DeRidder. Dr. Clyde Averitt and Dr. Emory Wallace, of DeRidder and Dr. Jolly Harper of Natchitoches, La. officiated. Burial was a Beauregard Cemetery in DeRidder under the direction of Beauregard Vernon Funeral of DeRidder. Mr. Lee died at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 1988 at his residence at Lakewood Farm in DeRidder. He was a native of Webster Parish and was a former high school principal in Sabine Parish before coming to DeRidder in 1934, where he and the late sheriff, J. H. Cain, established a Ford dealership, later buying two other agencies in Leesville and Many. Mr. Lee continued to massage the DeRidder agency for 25 years before entering the real estate and insurance business. Together with C. R. Middleton, the partnership developed into Twin Lake Subdivision, later building Cain-Lee and North Heights Subdivisions, and establishing his home on the ranch. During World War II, Mr. Lee served in the Navy as a Chief Petty Officer. His many civic interests included the Rotary Club for over 50 years of which he was twice president, was an American Legion past commander and honorary life member, on the Beauregard Parish Fair Board of Directors, and a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite Bodies and the Habibi Temple of Lake Charles. He was one of the founders of the Beauregard Cattlemen's Association and was the secretary for 28 years. On his retirement, this group honored with a recognition banquet and "roast'. He was a past president of the Beauregard Farm Bureau and a member of the State Board of Directors of the bureau. He was a past president of the Louisiana's Cattlemen's Associating and Regional Vice-President of the American National Cattlemen's Association, a past President of the Louisiana Angus Association and a member of the National Angus Board of Directors; a member of the L. S. U. Livestock Sanitary Board, a member of Louisiana Livestock Brand Committee, a member of the Louisiana Forage Committee and a past president of Beauregard Old River Game and Fish Commission. Mr. Lee was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. At the time of his death, Mr. Lee was a member of the Board of Directors of American Liberty Financial Corporation and its subsidiary in Baton Rouge. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a former Sunday school teacher and twice chairman of its official board. He headed the building committee that planned and began construction of the educational building. He is survived by his wife, the former Helen Cain of DeRidder; on son, Jimmy Lee and two granddaughters, Melanie Page Lee and Stacey Amanda Lee, of DeRidder; two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Atkins of Benton, La. and Mrs. Maurice Aubrey of Shreveport, La.; and a brother, F. T. Lee of Vivian, La.
