Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Monday, Sept. 11, at Rocket Nettles Funeral Home, with interment following at Bethany Pres. Church Grave Yard. Mrs. Layfield and her husband, Clarence, moved to Toledo Bend Lake in the Sepulvado Landing area five years ago from Coushatta. They chose a retirement on Toledo Bend, mainly to satisfy one of Daisy's greatest passions, fishing. She was handy with her hands, especially quilts and clothing. She was an excellent cook and baker as well, claims the family. She was kind to everyone. Mrs. Layfield served in the United States Women's Army Corps during WWII. She served from 1943-1945. She was assigned to the General Staff, Pacific Theatre, General MacArthur's Staff, personnel specialist. She has the distinction of having typed the orders to drop the first atom bomb on Japan. She attained the rank of PFC. She was decorated with the following service awards: American Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal with 3 bronze Stars, WAAC Service Ribbon, and the Philippines Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Service Star. Survivors include her husband, Clarence Layfield, Jr.; three children, Sharon Laughlin of Beaumont, Texas, Bruce Layfield of San Antonio, Texas, and Robert Layfield of McKinney, Texas; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
