Lewis 9 Feb 1934 - Mrs. W. J. Lewis was born March 17, 1856 in Butler County, Alabama, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. E. Laurent, Zwolle, Louisiana, February 4, 1934. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bryant Dees. She united with Beara Creek Baptist church, Wilcox county, Colo., when quite young and lived a Christian life, was a member of the Jerusalem Baptist church when she left us. She was a sympathetic friend to the sick and needy. She said on her dying bed she was ready to go because she was prepared. She read her Bible and said her prayers daily. She married W. J. Lewis in 1876 and he preceded her to better home 33 years ago. To this union was born 13 children of whom eight survive as follows: Mrs. J. M. Pucket, Fisher; Mrs. J. M. Quarles, Zwolle, Mrs. B. E. Richardson, Goss, Mrs. C. C. Alford, Liberty, Texas; Andrew Lewis, Fisher, Dolph Lewis, Fisher, Mrs. C. E. Laurent, Zwolle, Ms. Mae Sadler, Houston, Texas. All were at her bedside when she died except Mrs. Sadler. Deceased had 47 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She has three brothers and one sister who survive as follows: Ed and Jim Dees, Many, Kirk Dees, Fort Jesup, and Mrs. Mattie Smith, Fort Jesup. There is a voice we love that's still, there is a place vacant in our home that can never be filled.
