Leach 13 May 1960 - Funeral services for David S. Leach, 86, were held Sunday, May 8 in Prospect Methodist church with the Rev. Leo Westbrook, the Rev. Sam Ware, and the Rev. L. S. Lantrip officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery under the direction of Warren Funeral Home of Many, La. Mr. Leach died in a local hospital after a lengthy illness. Survivors include his widow, Lydia Leach; three daughters, Mrs. C. L. Cousins of Dubberly, Mrs. E. K. Bennett and Mrs. J. S. Carlton of Longview, Tex.: a sister, Mrs. R. B. (Aunt Dink) Miller of Florien; and tow grandchildren: Jack Carlton, USAF of Maultrie, Ga., and Ann Carlton of Longview, Tex. Mr. Leach was a member of the Masonic Lodge at Florien, the members of which served as pallbearers and had charge of the services at the grave side. He was also a member and past patron of the Mt. Carmel chapter No. 3, OES of Florien. For many years Mr. Leach served the town as postmaster and was well-known by people of the town and surrounding communities. He was a staunch supporter of education and saw Florien High school grow from a two-room school to its present stage. He served on the local boards and committees who helped it grow. He grew up in this community, reared his family here, and was active in the work of the town. He had been an active member of Prospect Methodist church since his early years and saw it grow from a one room log church to its present modern structure. He will be greatly missed in Florien and community. Every day the Master calleth Someone to Eternal Rest. And the hearts though filled with anguish, can but say He knoweth best.
