Leach Killed instantly in a two vehicle collision near Florien, Saturday, May 6, was Fred R. Leach, 45, of Hornbeck. Leach was the driver of a pickup truck that pulled out from the Plainview Road in front of a Foremost Milk truck going north on Hwy. 171. The driver of the milk truck was Thurman Freeman of Shreveport. Leach struck the right side of the milk truck, causing both vehicles to leave the right side of the road. The pickup truck turned completely over, and the milk truck traveled a few feet further, and hit a pine tree. Leach was pronounced dead at 2 p.m., on the scene, and Freeman was rushed to the Many Hospital for emergency treatment. He was later transferred to a Shreveport hospital, where he is reported to be doing well, even though he has a broken leg, cuts, and bruises. According to the investigating officer, State Trooper Joe Byles, no charges were filed.
