Lewis Funeral services were held in the Converse Baptist Church, for Mearril L. Lewis, July 26, at 3 p.m. He was 38 years of age. Services were conducted by Rev. Eugene Sattler, and assisted by Rev. Jerry Schmucker, under the direction of Drewett Funeral Home. Pallbearers were first cousins of the deceased, whose names are Clive Barnhill, Hubert Barnhill, Corbert Lewis, Fred Lewis, Mickey Moses, and Douglas Lilly. Mearril was born Nov. 17, 1921, in Marthaville. He entered military July 10, 1942. He spent three years, nine months, and two days in active duty. During his tour, he spent approximately 18 months in the European Theater. During his tour, nine months was occupation duty. He has lived in Houston, Tex. for the last 14 years, and was employed by the Rainbow Bread Co. Mearril had just returned to his home, after visiting his parents in Mansfield. He suffered a fatal heart attack, and passed away in the Medical Arts Hospital, July 21, at 3 p.m. He is survived by his widow, Helen Scott Lewis; three sons, Stephen, Mike, and Wayne. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Norris W. Lewis, Mansfield; three brothers, SFC Huey Lewis, stationed in Germany; Sp5 Earl Lewis, last assignment Korea; three sisters, Mrs. Marie Crutchfield, Mansfield, Mrs. Ruby Baucom, Charlotte, N. C., Mrs. Irene Rivers, Joaquin, Tex.; a grandmother, Mrs. W. A. Dans, Converse; and a number of nieces, nephews, and many friends. Mearril was loving and kind to all. He's gone but not forgotten.
