All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Mrs. Shirley Sanders Lucius Mrs. Shirley Sanders Lucius, the wife of Rupert LeRoy Lucius Jr. of Many, Louisiana, passed away at 10:55 a.m., on May 5, 1989, at Schumpert Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late Harold Nichols Sanders of Shreveport, and the late Mrs. Stephen Nowock of Oceano, California, but had resided in Northwest Louisiana since 1946. She graduated from Byrd High School, and received her B. S. in Education from Centenary College in 1955. While there, she was a member of the Maroon Jackets, Chi Omega sorority, and was chosen Miss Centenary in 1954. She later received her M. A. in Special Education from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, was on the special education testing team there, and taught in the Sabine Parish schools for 15 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Many, and her ancestors include several soldiers of both the Revolutionary, and Civil Wars. Since 1957, Mrs. Lucius resided in Many, and raised her family there. She was preceded in death by her son, the late Rupert LeRoy Lucius III. Surviving Mrs. Lucius are her husband, Rupert LeRoy Lucius Jr.; her three daughters, Mrs. Robert Alan Julian of Tiburan, California, Miss Rebecca Lucius, and Miss Elena Lucius, both of Many; one son-in-law, Robert Alan Julian; one grandson, Robert Alan Julian Jr.; her sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Christensen of Studio City, California; her three brothers, Mr. Don Sanders of Amarillo, Tex., Mr. Barton Sanders, and Mr. William Sanders, both of Honduras; her three half sisters, Mrs. Stephanie Garrison, Mrs. Denise Coho, Ms. Rita Nowak, all of California; her step mother, Mrs. Elmer Lee Ford, and her aunt, Mrs. Virginia Mussachia of Laguna Hills, California; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Burial and graveside services were at Fort Jesup, Louisiana. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that gifts be made to the American Cancer Society.
