The Rev. Luther W. Taylor of St. Bernard Methodist Church in Chalmette, and the Rev. William H. Williams of Lee Summitt, Missouri, a native of Florien, officiated. Numbers of classmates and friends of the 17 year old were in attendance. The 1976 graduate of Many High School was killed in a one vehicle accident at 6:45 p.m., Saturday, June 12, on the Mount Carmel Road, according to investigating officer, Trooper James D. Napier of the Louisiana State Police, Troop H. Young Lucius, who was driving a 1975 Chevrolet truck, was traveling on La. Highway 118, approximately eight miles east of Florien, when the accident occurred. He was traveling at a high rate of speed, and apparently lost control in a curve, and flipped the truck, causing extensive damages to the vehicle. The truck came to a rest on it's side in a ditch. Lucius was transported to Fraser Hospital by Sabine Ambulance Service, but died en route. Two passengers in the vehicle, Joey Basco, 15, of Marrero, and Eric Quayhagen, 16, of Many, were injured. A member of a pioneer family in Sabine Parish, Lucius attended Allen Military Academy in Bryan, Tex. He had graduated from Many High School on May 17, less than one month ago. At MHS, he was one of the male leads in the class play, "Our Hearts were Young and Gay", and was cited as Best Actor, along with the other male lead, in a critique published in the INDEX.
