W. Lockwood, who departed this life April 4, 1922. She was only confined to her bed one day and night. She hadn't been well for about 4 weeks, but kept going and doing her work, until Monday evening, April 3, when a severe pain struck her heart. She fell unconscious and didn't speak or move for about three hours, but our Savior heard and answered our prayer, and she come to herself and talked with us all day Tuesday, but that night God saw fit to call her home. It seems hard to part with those we love so well, but we must be submissive to our blessed Savior's will. He knoweth best and doeth all things well. Mother was born in Pike County, Alabama, in 1858 and moved to Louisiana with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Norsworthy, when a small child. She was converted in early life and united with the Baptist church in 1872. She was married to George W. Lockwood and to this union were born 9 children, 6 boys and three girls; 4 boys preceded her to the home beyond the skies. Oh, what a flood of memories comes rushing over us, when we recall her life and what it meant to us. In infancy, she was our true and best friend; all her life, her hopes, her joys, her anxieties, and even her dreams were of and for her children. The first eyes we ever looked into were our mother's; the first kiss we ever received was from her, the first word ever lisped was "Mama." The first fond embrace around this hallowed name clusters and clings our sweetest recollections. She leaves a loving companion, 5 children, a host of grandchildren and many other relatives and friends to mourn her death. But dear father, brothers and sisters, let's not grieve about mother any longer, but be ready to meet her when Jesus comes for us. We have lost our darling mother. Her toils on earth are over. Her race on earth is done. God grant that we may all rest sweetly, when our work like hers is done. Till then we yield with gladness our mother to Him to keep. And rejoice in the sweet assurance He giveth His loved ones sleep. Written by her Daughter.
