Ellen Coburn was born Jan. 19, 1849, died Dec. 31, 1933. She was married to William W. Lester Feb. 8, 1866. To this union was born six children, four daughters and two son, Mrs. P. J. Herrington, Mrs. C. C. Addison, Mrs. W. J. Derrett and Mrs. J. C. Leach, all of Florien Route One, and W. M. Lester of Nederland, Texas, and Dr. W. D. Lester of Many. She had twenty-seven grandchildren, fifty-three great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren living at her death. She was much for domestic affairs in her home. She always laid aside her domestic affairs to attend her church. She united with Middle Creek Baptist church in 1866. She was baptized by Rev. Y. J. Prewitt and remained a faithful member until her death. She was a loyal and devoted member of the Sacred Harp Singing Convention. Her favorite hymn was "The Golden Harp." Grandma Lester has gone to play on that Golden Harp. She was known far and wide for her kindness and hospitality. She was ever kind and loving friend to neighbors and her children. She bore her last illness and afflictions with Christian fortitude and patience, often expressing her faith in God who she had trusted and served all these years.
