Lassiter, 66, was stricken in the Morehouse Parish Courthouse. He was pronounced dead on arrival at a Monroe hospital. He had a history of heart trouble. The district attorney for Morehouse and Ouachita parishes for 14 years, Lassiter was appointed by Gov. John J. McKeithen in 1970, to succeed Judge Jesse Heard, who moved to the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals. In his last statewide election, Lassiter won the right to remain on the bench until later this year, when he would have had to run for a full six-year term. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning in Monroe. Judge Lassiter was the father of the Rev. Perry Lassiter, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Many.
