Lester 16 May 1952 - Last rites for Dr. Willis D. Lester, 69, who passed away at his home in Many Friday were conducted at the chapel of Warren funeral home 10 a.m. Saturday by Rev. Oliver Roberts. Interment followed under direction Warren funeral home in Fort Jesup cemetery. Pallbearers were: J. C. Lester, Alton Horn, K. C. Nichols, J. L. Norris, Buddy Dees, R. G. Risor, Joe McNeely, Jr., and Charles Middleton. Dr. Lester was born in the Middle Creek community of Sabine parish Nov. 15, 1883, attended the old Fort Jesup high school and was a graduate of the Memphis (Tenn.) School of medicine. He first practiced medicine in Many in 1912 and continued until his death. On Sept. 15, 1912 he married Miss Effie Boswell, daughter of the late Gabriel Boswell. A deeply religious man, Dr. Lester was the author of many tracts and several small books. He was extremely charitable and was well known for his generosity to churches, organizations and the poor. For several years he served as coroner of Sabine parish. Surviving relatives include: the widow, Mrs. Effie Lester, Many; brother, Mackie Lester, Nederland, Texas; sister, Mrs. Joe Durrett, Many.
