All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Leatrice Sandel Lastrapes Leatrice Sandel Lastrapes was born in Shreveport, Marcy 27, 1923, and died in Redmond, Ore., Oct. 19, 2002, after a lengthy illness. She was a resident of Shreveport until after the death of her husband in 1989, when she moved to Oregon to be near her daughter. She was a wonderful and creative cook, and she loved to read. She taught both her children to read very early, and they learned to love reading as well. Both her children grew up to volunteer to teach adult literacy classes. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Oct. 28, at Prospect Methodist Church in Florien, with interment following at Prospect Cemetery. Survivors include one sister, Etoyle Sandel Ballard of Memphis, Tenn.; son and daughter, George Lastrapes III of Austin, and Judith Hanlon of Bend, Ore.; one grandson; one great granddaughter; and nieces, Mary Katherine Ballard Rawlins of Dallas, Texas, and Jill Sandel Ballard Wallace of Memphis, Tenn. She was preceded in death by husband George Finlay Lastrapes II; and her parents, Clarence Cade Sandel, and Florence Farrar Sandel.
