Lites 5 Oct 1934 - A timber, falling 40 feet from a derrick brought death to T. J. Lites, 23, employee of the Pelican Natural Gas Company, on the Four-L company No. 4 lease at 3 p.m. Saturday. The timber, dislodged when the crew was pulling tubing, struck Lites of the head, who was working on the rig. Parish coroner Dr. J. K. Phares, pronounced the death accidental. Funeral services were held at Mt. Zion Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m., with Rev. L. D. Goodman of Mt. Zion conducting the last rites. Pallbearers include Lites' fellow workers on the lease. They were Cliff Massingill, Don McMellon, Carl Turner, D. K. LeBarron, George Duke, Granwill Duke, Lonnie Trimble, and Harvey Smith. Lites is survived by his widow and one 8 month old child; his father, H. V. Lites of Garland, Ark.; one brother J. W. Lites of Many, and one sister, Mrs. Isabelle Walden. He was the grandson of Rev. T. J. Lites of Mt. Zion. Jewel Greer, 30, was also struck in the head by the falling timber and was rushed to the doctor. Several stitches were taken, but he was not seriously hurt.
