All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Amos Noble Latham, Jr. Services for Amos Noble Latham Jr., 72, were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, November 7, in the First Baptist Church of San Marcos, Texas. Officiating was the Rev. Mike Stewart. Burial followed in the San Marcos City Cemetery. Mr. Latham died Saturday, November 4, in Dallas, Texas. He was born in Mansfield on October 15, 1917, to Amos Noble Latham, and Alma Durham Latham. At the age of 14, Mr. Latham joined the Mansfield High School, in May of 1934. He received his B.A. degree in Economics from Louisiana State University in June of 1939. He was a Major in the Army Air Corp. from August of 1941, through March of 1946. He was Chief of Personnel from September 1946 until January of 1950, for the Veterans Administration in Columbus, Ohio. He served as Chief of Employee Relations for the Department of Commerce (National Production Authority). This term was from January 1950, until October 1952 in Washington, D. C. He became personnel Director for the Internal Revenue, and served there from 1952 to February 1960. Until his retirement in April 1973, Mr. Latham was Director of Personnel for the United States Treasury Department in Washington, D. C. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Latham of Martindale, Texas; sons, Amos Latham III and wife Sybil of Dayton, Ohio, John Rogers Latham and wife Anita of Dallas, Texas, and Scott Latham of Dallas, Texas; daughters, Patricia Ann Briffa of Shreveport, Melinda Bates and her husband Chris of Baltimore, Maryland, and Eileen Latham of Austin, Texas; three sisters, Elma Nabors and her husband Wilford of Mansfield, Alma Boucher and her husband Gus of Converse, and Carolyn Latham Chaney and her husband Kermit of Kansas; and 14 grandchildren.
