James "J. C." Lewing

  James Crit Lewing, 63, of Pineland, Tex., died Sunday, March 20,
at the Mary Dickerson Hospital in Jasper, Texas.

  Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, March 21, at the
Starr Funeral Home of Hemphill, Tex. Burial was in the Plainview
Cemetery of Pineland, Tex.

  A native of Florien, and a Hemphill, Tex. Resident of 45 years,
he was a retired carpenter, and an army veteran of World War II.

  Survivors include his wife, Flora Lewing of Pineland, Tex.;
three sons, Douglas E. Lewing of Big Lake, Tex., William LeRoy
Whitney of Pineland, Tex., and Kenneth E. Whitney of Burkeville,
Tex.; three daughters, Shirley Rodrigues of Many, Ruth Lester of
Florien, and Pauline Payne of Pineland, Tex.; two sisters, Rita
Scroggins, and Georgie Ashley, both of Hornbeck; 22
grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
