All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Jay Hugh Lewing Funeral services for Jay Hugh Lewing, 59, former mayor of Mansfield, were held Monday, Feb. 18th, at 4 p.m. The rites were held in the First Baptist Church in Mansfield, with Dr. George Ritchey, and the Rev. W. R. Irving officiating. Burial was in the Highland Cemetery, under the direction of Drewett Funeral Home, with Masonic graveside rites by the local lodge, of which Mr. Lewing was a member. City Hall offices were closed as a mark of respect for the former official, who served 18 years as mayor of Mansfield. Mr. Lewing was a native of Sabine Parish, and attended Northwestern State College. He also taught school in the parish, before going to Mansfield. He has many friends and relatives here. His wife is Mrs. Rupert Sr. Lucius' sister. Survivors include his widow; a son, Dr. Hugh S. of Shreveport; a daughter, Susan; two brothers, Sam, and Allen Lewing of Florien; a sister, Mrs. Amos Knippers, Many; and two grandchildren.
