All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Frances Elizabeth Lowrey Services were conducted for Frances Elizabeth Lowrey, 78, of Mansfield, at the First United Methodist Church in Mansfield. Miss Lowrey passed away Wednesday, March 7, after a brief illness. Officiating the services were Rev. Wayne Evans, and Dr. George Harbuck of the First United Methodist Church. Burial was in the Highland Cemetery. Miss Lowrey was born in Mansfield on July 28, 1911. Her parents were John W. Lowrey Sr., and Loretto McGehee Lowrey. She attended Mansfield Female College, where she majored in education. In 1943, she served her country in the WAVES, and was stationed in Maui, Hawaii until 1945. Miss Lowrey was a partner in the family business in Mansfield; first, Lowrey Brothers General Merchandise, and later, Lowrey Motor Company, Inc. Libba, as she was known to her many relatives and friends, was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church in Mansfield. She helped organize the Wesleyan Service Guild (later United Methodist Women), and served that organization in many capacities, both locally, and at the Conference level. She was the first woman to serve on the Administrative Board of the Mansfield Church, and the first woman to serve the Mansfield church, as the lay delegate to the Louisiana Annual Conference. She was active in the DeSoto General Hospital Auxiliary, DeSoto Historical Society, and Friends of the Library. She has spent many hours as a volunteer at Heritage Manor Nursing Home. In 1987, she was recognized as the First Lady of the Year by Beta Sigma Phi. Miss Lowrey was an active supporter of Centenary College in Shreveport. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter Lowrey of Shreveport, Robert Lowrey of Many. She is survived by one sister, Lora Mount of Sulphur; two brothers, Lynn Lowrey of Houston, Texas, and Jack Lowrey of Mansfield; four nieces, Loretta Woodward, Betty Bankhead, Susan Anderson, and Patsy Anderson; four nephews, Rogan Lowrey, Joe Lowrey, Louis Lowrey, and Bill Lowrey. Pallbearers were Hughes Jordan, Tom Gregory, John Lowrey, W. C. Lowrey, Marlin Risinger, J. C. McLaurin Jr., Frank Tiller, and William Pegues. The family requests that donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Mansfield.
