All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Mrs. Merrill Lowrey (Photo) Mrs. Merrill Lowrey of Many passed away in Houston, Texas, Thursday, July 26, following a lengthy illness. Funeral Mass was said Saturday, July 28, at St. John's Catholic Church in Many, by the Rev. Msgr. T. J. Lennon. Assisting in the services were Rev. Norman Buvens, and Rev. W. V. Sirman. Mrs. Lowrey was born in Alexandria, and spent her childhood in Mansfield, moving to Many in 1938. She was active in church and civic organizations, including the Altar Society, and the Mother's Club of St. John's Church. Also, she was active in the work of the Chamber of Commerce, the Association for Retarded Children, and the Garden Club. She was widely known as a gardener, and an artist, as well as a sportswoman, having received honors for her accomplishments as a trap shooter throughout the state. Mrs. Lowrey is survived by her husband, Bob; two sons, Louis, and Joe; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Laney; a sister, Mrs. Bennett Joffrion of Cottonport; a brother, Ernest Laney of Bogalusa; four grandchildren, Ann, Patricia, John, and Carolyn, and many nieces and nephews.
