All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Mrs. Melba Massey Funeral services for Mrs. Melba (Firmin) Massey, 72, of Melville, were held Monday, Oct. 16, at 11 a.m., in the St. John Catholic Church of Melville. Interment followed in the St. John Catholic Cemetery. Officiating was the Rev. Stanley Gootee. Mrs. Massey passed away on Thursday, Oct. 12, at her residence in Melville, following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Massey is survived by one son, William J. Massey Jr. of Pleasanton, California; two daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Mary) Harrison of Easton, Maryland, and Mrs. Rayford (Ruth Anne) Taylor of Decatur, Georgia; three brothers, John E. Firmin Jr. of Baton Rouge, Hanson Firmin of Hope, Arkansas, and Grimillion Firmin of Luling; and one sister, Mrs. Joe (Ruth) Cannatella of Melville; eleven grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. Mrs. Massey was a retired teacher. She taught in Avoyelles and St. Landry parishes, Missouri, and Maryland. She is a native of Plattenville, and was reared in Rosa. She received a B.A. degree from Northwestern University, and did graduate work at the University of Missouri, at Columbia. She was also a volunteer for the Easton Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Massey was an auxiliary, and a member of St. John's Ladies Alter Society of Melville, as well as the La. Retired Teachers Assoc.
