Rev. Roy Mouser, and Rev. Bob Miller officiated. Interment followed in Oak Grove Cemetery near Converse. Mr. Mayes died at DeSoto General Hospital in Mansfield, Sunday, July 4, 1993, of a sudden illness. He was born in Shreveport. He was a student at the J. I. Watson Middle School in Iowa, La., where he was a member of the Talent Pool, National Jr. Honor Society, Natural Helpers, and the Band. He attended Iowa United Methodist Church. Survivors are his mother, Martha Ann Cates; and stepfather, James Thomas Cates III of Lake Charles; maternal grandparents, Johnnie and Mary Jean Thompson of Mitchell, La.; father and paternal grandfather, Jerry Kenneth Mayes, and Joseph Kenneth Mayes; two sisters, Jennifer Ann Cates, and Leslie Ann Cates of Lake Charles, La.; and one stepbrother, Jason Michael Cates of Houston, Tex. Pallbearers were Glen Wilburn, Robert Davidson, Carl Webb, Rusty? Johnson, Ronnie Higginbotham, and Jimmy Price.
