All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** James Maxey Two Sabine Parish Negroes were shot early Saturday morning, in two different ructions, that kept Sabine Parish Deputies busy until after five o'clock that morning. Deputy Walter Sculthorpe took a call about 1 a.m., that James Maxey of Florien had been shot. Maxey was brought to Fraser Hospital in Many, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Investigating the accident were Deputies Jimmy Pleasant, and Floyd Terrell, who were called to the Fraser Hospital. In the meantime, Robert Maxey, Florien Negro, came to the Sabine Parish Courthouse, and surrendered to Deputy Walter Sculthorpe. Maxey brought with him a 12 gauge single barrel shotgun, the death weapon, He is a cousin to the victim. The brawl that ended in the shooting was started when James Maxey left with Robert Maxey's girlfriend, Ollie Mae Carter. When they returned, Robert shot James just over the heart, at close range.
