She was born Aug. 4, 1911, to Fred and Neely Alford of Many. She had three brothers and six sisters. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Oct. 23, at Oak Hill Baptist Church, with interment following at Oak Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Kenneth Leach Sr., and the Rev. E. E. Walker officiated. On Dec. 21, 1929, she married Walter Harold Maxey. They had a daughter and a son. "Aunt Nettie", as she was known to one and all, was a lifelong resident of Sabine Parish. Her love of God, family, and friends was a shining light for all to follow. Throughout her life, she delighted in being a "second mother" to all of her nieces and nephews, sharing with them her love and advice. For many years, the beautiful flowers she grew graced the alter of Oak Hill Baptist Church. Each homecoming everyone loved her wonderful cooking. She enjoyed crocheting, and became a champion domino player. Because of her work and dedication to Sabine Chapter #171, Order of the Eastern Star, she was granted a lifelong membership. Survivors include her daughter, Georgia Armour and husband Swepson of Corrigan, Texas; son, George Maxey and wife Carolyn of Many; granddaughters, Judy Carney of Houston, Texas, and Kathy Adams of Montgomery, Texas; grandson, David Armour of San Angelo, Texas; four great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Pallbearers were her nephews, Jerry Alford, Billy Guay, Jerry Neal, Ronnie Neel, Hubert Hippler, and Floyd Tarpley.
