Mize, 48, pastor of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, died in Fraser Sanitarium Dec. 10, after an illness of three months. He came to this field May 19, 1955, and served successfully for four months, when he suffered a heart attack. Rev. Mize came to Mt. Carmel from Mt. Olive Association. He was a successful pastor in all fields he served during his fifteen years in the ministry. Other churches he pastored were; Macedonia Baptist Church, Effie; Riverview, Alexandria; Walker 1st, Walker; and Pisgah, Forest Hill. Bro. Mize was active in associational work in each association he pastored. He was a member of Marksville Lodge No. 269 F&AM, Marksville. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Letha Mize, Mt. Carmel; one daughter, Mrs. Gretta Henderson, Walker; a brother, Lawrence Mize, Dry Prong; a sister, Mrs. Beatrice Avery, Dry Prong; and father, W. B. Mize, Verda; a host of friends, not only at Mt. Carmel, but all through the state. The funeral was held at Old Hebron Baptist Church, Big Creek Association, Monday, Dec. 12, at 2:30 p.m. It was in this church that he was converted as a young boy, later answered the call to the ministry, and then preached his first sermon. Hixson Brothers Funeral Home was in charge. Bro. L. J. Skiles brought the message with Brothers Glen Marr, T. T. Edwards, Herman Wilkinson, Guy Allen, and James W. Logon assisted. Pallbearers were pastors of Sabine Association, namely, Rev. L. D. Crawford, O. T. Bolton, E. Martin, V. R. Miller, Kenneth Jones, and J. W. Owens.
