All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** The Sabine Index - James McFerrin 23 Sep 1938 - Funeral services for James McFerrin, 72, life-long resident of Pleasant Hill, were conducted from the Baptist church in Pleasant Hill from the Baptist church in Pleasant Hill at 10 a.m. last Tuesday with the Rev. Frank Roberts, pastor, officiating. He was assisted in the services by the pastors and former pastors of the children of the deceased. These include Rev. C. W. Willams of Many, Rev. J. D. Cheatham of Coushatta, Dr. E. M. Causey of Zwolle, Rev. W. J. Ross of Pleasant Hill, and Rev. Troy B. Yopp of New Orleans. Mr. McFerrin, who was a school board member from Ward 7, Sabine parish for 20 years, has a wide circle of friends who mourn his passing. He was a member of the Baptist Church and of the Masonic fraternity. For many years he had been a successful farmer of the Pleasant Hill community. A great host of friends and relatives was present for the funeral services. Those surviving include the widow and seven daughters: Mrs. Bruce Darby, Many; Mrs. J. E. Collier, Armstead; Mrs. W. R. Griffin, Gilbert; Mrs. E. C. Durham, Armstead; Mrs. W. A. Sandlin, Natchitoches; Mrs. Horace Tompkins, Many, and Mrs. J. F. Hotho of Lafayette; four sons, T. W. McFerrin, Natchitoches; S. S. of Franklinton, W. H. of Pleasant Hill and J. R. of Coushatta. There are four brothers: Amos McFerrin of Marthaville; Leon of Homer; E. C. of Henderson, Texas, and E. L. of Shreveport; one sister, Mrs. Florence Sandifer of Robeline. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A Masonic funeral services was held at the grave with the grand lecturer of the Grand Lodge of Louisiana in charge.
