McDiarmid, 49, of 309 S. 23rd Street, died in St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, after suffering a heart attack. Funeral services were held Friday, at 2 p.m., in the Webb Funeral Home Chapel at Independence, Ark., with the Rev. J. W. Pace officiating. Burial was in the Mount Hope Cemetery. John Curry McDiarmid was born Aug. 30, 1919, in Hermitage, Arkansas. He lived there until after his marriage, and moved to Independence from El Dorado, Ark., in 1960. He was employed locally by the Independence Bottling Co., and later at Starcraft Boat Co. He sustained an injury in an accident on the job, March 20, 1967, and had not been able to work since that time. He married Ethel Boyette, July 17, 1937, and she survives at the home. He was a member of the Bible Baptist Church of Hornbeck, La., but attended the Southern Baptist Church of Independence. He had lived and worked in Louisiana, at Hornbeck, Gandy, and Florien, where he had many friends. Survivors, in addition to the widow, include A. S. McDiarmid, his 95 year old father, who made the trip by automobile from Florien, La., to Independence, to attend the funeral; three sons, John, and Tom of Independence, and James of the armed forces in Vietnam; two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Linda) Matthews of Independence, and Mrs. Tom (Judy) Lawrence, Lakewood, Calif.; two brothers, L. W. of El Dorado, Ark., and Willie of Warren, Ark.; two sisters, Mrs. Maggie King, and Mrs. Girtie Edwards of Florien, La.; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother; and one grandson. The family may be contacted at 1904 West Maple Street, in Independence, Arkansas.
