Two other injuries and a DWI ticket also stemmed from an argument. At press time, George Procell of Zwolle was lodged in the Sabine Parish Jail, facing two counts of first degree murder. According to the authorities, the argument between one of the victims, Glen P. Meshell and Phillip Remedies, 23, of Zwolle, began outside the lounge after closing hours. Someone had apparently stolen a battery from the pick up of Wilson Meshell, 61, of Zwolle. The argument between the two young men developed into a scuffle, in which Mark Remedies, 21, of Zwolle, who was with Meshell, was cut in the back and arm by Glen Meshell. During the scuffle, three bystanders, George Procell, Andy Martinez, and Huey Ferguson, attempted to break up the fight. Procell was reportedly cut in the leg by Meshell, and everyone began to scatter. Procell went to Martinez's pick up truck and retrieved a .22 caliber pistol. When the father and son started back toward the lounge, both were allegedly shot by Procell. In the meantime, Phillip Remedies put the injured Mark in the pick up and headed toward the hospital in Many. En route to the hospital, Remedies lost control of his 1977 Ford, turned the vehicle over, and came to rest in a ditch on the left hand side of the road. Remedies, who was severely cut, was rushed to the hospital, and Phillip was taken to the Sheriff's Office and charged with driving while intoxicated, by trooper James D. Napier. Meantime, law enforcement officials were arriving at the scene of the shooting. Found laying in the parking lot of the lounge was Wilson Meshell. He had been shot with a .22 caliber pistol in the mouth, at a close range. He was dead at the scene. En route to Fraser Hospital North in Jenkins Ambulance Service, was Meshell's son, Glen. He died from a gunshot wound to the chest minutes after arriving at the hospital. Remedies, who was treated at Fraser Hospital North, required over 50 stitches in his arm and back. Procell, who turned himself in to the Zwolle Police Dept. after the shooting, required over 50 stitches in his leg. An investigation into the shooting is continuing, according to Sheriff Brumley. Joint funeral services for the Meshells were held Monday, Oct. 29, at 2 p.m., in the Memorial Baptist Church of Zwolle. Officiating was the Rev. Benton Crittenden. Burial was in the Zwolle Cemetery, under the direction of the Warren Meadows Funeral Home.
