He died in Simi Valley, Calif. However he was born in Many. He is survived by his two sons, Charles McCollister of Simi Valley, and John McCollister of Chicago; two grandchildren, Kymberley Golde of Brookfield, Conn., and Kathryn McCollister of Washington, D. C.; and sister, Nuna B. Cromack of Brownsville, Tex. Mr. McCollister had a 35 year career in the Department of Justice, Immigration and Naturalization. He served as a border patrolman in Texas, and as the administrator of the largest family internment camp in Crystal City, Tex., during World War II. He retired as assistant regional commissioner in Minneapolis, Minn., in 1969. He has been a resident of Simi Valley since 1970, where he pursued a second career as a broker in real estate. Mr. McCollister was a past worshipful master of the Masonic Lodge, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, affiliated with the Scottish Rite, and Shriners, a Lion's Club member, and a deacon of the Baptist Church, for more than 50 years. He was recently widowed, after having been married for over 58 years. Graveside services were held at Oakwood Memorial Park in Chatsworth, Calif. Instead of flowers, a request was made that donations be given to Leon Tatum McCollister Memorial Fund, at the Royal Avenue Baptist Church, 2369 Royal Ave., Simi Valley 93065.
