(Special) Requiem mass for Mrs. N. C. McGowen, prominent Shreveport woman, who died unexpectedly at the family residence at 7 a.m., Thursday, following a heart attack, were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, at St. John's Catholic Church here. Mrs. McGowen, a lifelong resident of Shreveport, was the wife of N. C. McGowen, chairman of the board of United Gas Corp. They were married Dec. 12, 1917. Officiating at the mass was Father James I. McEnaney, S. J., assistant pastor of St. John's Catholic Church. Burial was in Forest Park Cemetery here, under the direction of Osborn Funeral Home. A rosary was said at the Osborn Funeral Home Chapel at 7:30 p.m., Friday, by Father J. J. McCarthy, S. J., pastor of St. John's Catholic Church. Mrs. McGowen was born on Aug. 2, 1888. Her parents were the late Mr. Charles E. Quigles, and the late Mrs. Barbara G. Harkey. Mrs. McGowen received her early education at St. Vincent's Academy here, and later attended Loretta Academy at St. Louis, Mo. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, and was active in the Altar Society, and St. Raphael's Guild. She was a member of the Women's Department Club of Shreveport. In addition to her husband, Mrs. McGowen is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Claude G. Rives III; and son, Norris C. McGowen Jr., both of Shreveport; four grandchildren, Claude G. Rives IV, N. C. McGowen III, Robert Miles McGowen, and Jean McGowen; and a sister, Miss Barbara Quigles, also of Shreveport.
